Calvin J. Hill, 85, of the Mountain Laurel Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield, and formerly of Philipsburg, died Saturday. Born Sept. 25, 1926 in Morrisdale, he was the son of the late William David and Augusta Anna (Sinfelt) Hill.
Mr. Hill was of the Protestant faith and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He loved opera, the arts, nature and animals.
He was employed as an officer with the Penn State campus police until his retirement in 1972. He was a 1944 graduate of the DuBois High School and attended Lycoming College. He also studied opera and music at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Mass.
He married the former Shirley R. Graffius on Sept. 8, 1951 in Philipsburg and who survives in Philipsburg. Also surviving are two daughters, Robin Baran of Pittsburgh and Brenda Sue Hill of Philipsburg; a sister, Laura Hill Kremer, MD, and her husband, William Kremer, MD of Dickerson, MD; two grandchildren, Sarah E. Baran of Broomall and Sidney J. Baran of Downingtown; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Ruth Hill and a brother, Albert Hill, MD.
As per Mr. Hill’s wishes, private funeral services will be held at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, Philipsburg, with the Rev. Timothy D. Richmond officiating. Burial will be in the Grandview Cemetery, Morrisdale.
There will be no public visitation.
