WJACTV: Prosecutors Reveal Phone Tap Used to Arrest Mom Accused of Killing Newborn Son

HUNTINGDON – WJACTV.com is reporting that Huntingdon County prosecutors revealed that they had tapped numerous phone conversations during a motions hearing for a mother accused of killing her newborn son.

A judge is expected to rule who will incur the costs for a forensic pathologist for the defense of Maria Boyd within the coming weeks.

The 23-year-old mother was arrested on first-degree murder and homicide charges in December for the death of her 6-week-old son Andrew.

Troopers charged Boyd following a 17-month investigation, when the newborn was discovered unresponsive bassinet inside a Smithfield Township home.

A coroner said the newborn died from blunt force trauma, several broken bones and had alcohol in it’s system.

More than a dozen friends and family members offered their support as Boyd was led into the courtroom and taken back to a cruiser in handcuffs.
