Randy L. Swales, 46, of Altoona and formerly of Clearfield, passed away on April 7, 2012 at UPMC Montefiore Hospital, Pittsburgh.
Mr. Swales was born on March 18, 1966, the son of Ralph E. and Carol L. (Weiss) Swales of Clearfield.
He was a graduate of Clearfield Area High School Class of 1984. He was senior class president and a multi-year letter winner in football, wrestling and baseball. He graduated in 1988 from Carnegie Mellon University where he received a bachelor degree in applied mathematics and played football under the legendary Chuck Klausing.
Mr. Swales worked for Penn Dot District 9-0 of Hollidaysburg as a Professional Engineer.
He enjoyed coaching his son Tanner in football and baseball for many years and won the 2011 East End Baseball League Championship. He was an avid Penn State football and wrestling fan and loved music.
He is survived by his parents, a son, Tanner, a daughter, Haylee, and her fiancé Franco, all of Altoona, two brothers; Bud Swales and Greg Swales and his wife Tina all of Clearfield, two nieces; Lynne and Abby Swales and his beloved fiancée Laura Shively and her two sons; Chris and Zack of Northampton, PA.
Mr. Swales was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Francis and Jane Swales, maternal grandparents, Frank and Eleanor Weiss and an uncle, J.R. Weiss.
Funeral Services will be held at the Bennett and Houser Funeral Home, Inc. of Clearfield on April 13 at 11:00 a.m. with Gary Jewart officiating. Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on April 11 from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of services.
