He was born on Dec. 22, 1924 in Kylertown, a son of the late Lawrence and Mary (Dale) Hockenburry.
Mr. Hockenburry was employed as a coal miner for over fifty years until his retirement. He was also known as being a home repairman.
He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge #1173, Philipsburg.
John enjoyed watching westerns and listening to country music.
He served with the armed forces during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret ‘Peg’ (Stock) Hockenburry whom he wed June 3, 1972, nine children, Fred A. Hockenburry, Sr. and wife Kathleen of Philipsburg, Rita Gervasi of Savannah, GA, Deborah Maddas of Altoona, Mary Denise Cassanova of TX, Patricia ‘Patty’ Quick and husband Richard of Blairsville, Charles R. Dixon and companion Peggy Starcher of Clearfield, Michael J. ‘Mick’ Dixon of Morrisdale, John ‘Rick’ Dixon and wife Jane of Wellsboro, Bonnie Yurky and husband Brian of Philipsburg, several grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, a sister, Mildred ‘Millie’ Barnett of Saltsburg, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, John F. Hockenburry and a sister, Margaret ‘Marney’ Deutsch.
Funeral services will be held at the Kevin A Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Thursday at 11:00 am with Pastor George W. Solley officiating. Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery, Clearfield.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on April 11 from 4:00- 7:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
