CLEARFIELD – In celebration of the Clearfield Branch of AAUW’s 40th anniversary, AAUW and Joseph & Elizabeth Shaw Public Library present Charlotte Ames of WTAJ-TV’s Healthcast at Shaw Public Library.  The presentation, which will feature a discussion of women’s health issues, will be held on April 18 at 7:00 p.m.

According to WTAJ-TV’s Web site, Ames is the area’s only local Health Reporter.  Healthcast, a segment of the WTAJ News, can be viewed weeknights on at 5:00 p.m. and her Health Headlines report can be seen on WTAJ News at 5:30 p.m.

Ames’ biography on WTAJ-TV’s website is extensive and reveals a long and distinguished career.  She has been reporting on medical subjects for more than a decade. Earlier in her career, she reported on many other subjects, such as politics, crime, and child abuse.  She also has served as Weekend and Morning anchors.

Before coming to WTAJ-TV, Ames was a radio news director and disc jockey who earned her degrees from Penn State University.  She is originally from Central Pennsylvania having grown up in Irvona, ClearfieldCounty.

An exciting element to this program for the Shaw Public Library is that the event showcases the PA Forward Health Literacy.  Earlier this year, the Pennsylvania Library Association (PaLA) launched the PA Forward initiative, which supports the efforts of libraries across the state as leaders in community education.  TheAmespresentation offers the women of the Clearfield community an opportunity to enhance their health literacy, one of the five literacies promoted by the PA Forward | Pennsylvania Libraries initiative.

“We are thrilled to be part of PA Forward and to be working with AAUW on this event,” stated Paula Collins, library director at Shaw Public Library.   “The library is so much more than a building that houses a lot of great books; we are committed to improving the quality of life for the people in our community.”

AAUW and Shaw Public Library invite the public to join them in welcoming Ames back to Central Pennsylvania for this free, educational event.  Light refreshments will be served.
