PSU Alumni Association Organizes ‘Meet the Candidates’ Event for Board of Trustees Election

In an effort to help alumni make an informed vote in the upcoming Penn State Board of Trustees election, the Penn State Alumni Association is facilitating two opportunities for alumni to gather information on the 86 alumni candidates: a “Meet the Candidates” event prior to the Blue-White Game and a Q&A website.

The “Meet the Candidates” event will be 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. April 21 in the Intramural Building on the Penn State University Park campus. All 86 candidates will be given an area within the large gymnasium from which they can talk to alumni and provide information about themselves and their candidacy. It will be an informal meet-and-greet opportunity without speeches or a program.

For the “Three Questions for the Candidates” website, the Alumni Association through its Penn Stater magazine posed the same three questions to each alumni candidate on key issues facing Penn State. The questions and each candidate’s answers will be posted online on or before April 9.

“Given the unprecedented field of candidates for the three open positions on the Penn State Board of Trustees, we wanted to be able to help alumni in making their voting decisions by giving them an in-person and an online opportunity to learn a little more about each candidate and their positions,” said Roger L. Williams, executive director of the Alumni Association.

Voting in the Board of Trustees election for the three open alumni seats runs from April 10 through 9 a.m. May 3. The complete list of alumni candidates, in ballot order, as well as their bio and position statements are on the Board of Trustees’ Web site.
