Born Dec. 14, 1927, he was the son of the late Willard and Ethel (Weakland) McGirk.
He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Osceola Mills, a member of the Immaculate Conception Church Choir, and an Army Veteran of World War II. He was a representative for Fuller Brush for 20 years; was a substitute teacher; a Reading Works volunteer for the P.O. School District and an author of three short stories. He graduated from Altoona High School and attended Penn State University, Altoona Campus.
He was wed to Eveln (Peachman) Burket McGirk, who is deceased. He then married Janet June (Dively) Stout McGirk on Aug. 27, 1982 in Osceola Mills.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; sisters Alberta, Marjorie, Evelyn and Mildred and brother Donald.
He was survived by step-daughter Sharon Ann Stout of Sandy Ridge; step-sons Jack Burket and his wife Delores Burket of Altoona, Raymond Stot and his wife Mary Ann of Philipsburg and Randy Stout and his wife Khandaa Stout of Frankling; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Memorial Mass will be held on March 30 at 10 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Osceola Mills with the Rev. Father Robert. J. Horgas officiating. Burial will be at Umbria Cemetery in Osceola Mills. There will be no viewing.
