Johnsonburg Man Sustains Moderate Injuries in DUI-related Accident

RIDGWAY – A 30-year-old Johnsonburg man sustained moderate injuries following a single-vehicle, DUI-related accident at 3:53 a.m. Sunday along U.S. Route 219 south of Empire Drive in Ridgway Township, Elk County.

The Ridgway-based state police identified the man as Benji J. Fields, 30, of Johnsonburg. He was transported by Ridgway Ambulance Medic 3 to the Elk Regional Health Center. Fields wasn’t wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident.

According to the report, Fields was traveling northbound on state Route 948. For unknown reasons, when negotiating a left-hand curve, his vehicle began to slide counterclockwise. His vehicle continued to travel north on Route 219, traveling onto the east berm, where it impacted an embankment with its rear.

The Fields vehicle became airborne and traveled back onto the roadway, impacting the same. His vehicle slid across the northbound lane into the southbound lane, coming to a rest along the berm.

Fields will be cited for driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance, driving vehicle at a safe speed, careless driving, driving on roadways laned for traffic, restraint system and notice of change of name or address.
