Convicted Felon Jailed for Possessing Stolen Firearm, Vehicle

DECATUR TOWNSHIP – A previously convicted felon is back in jail after being found in possession of a stolen firearm and vehicle at 9:10 p.m. Thursday at the Harbor Inn in Decatur Township, Clearfield County, the Clearfield-based state police reported.

According to the report, Dewey Kent Smallwood, 43, of Madisonville, KY was allegedly in possession of a 42-year-old Madisonville, KY woman’s stolen firearm, a .22-caliber Ruger pistol, and a 1994 Toyota Corolla. The accused who is a convicted felon was prohibited from possessing a firearm and didn’t have a license for it. During arrest procedures, he allegedly caused intentional damage to property that belonged to the Commonwealth.

Smallwood was arrested for the following charges: person not to possess firearms; firearm not to be carried without a license; receiving stolen property; and criminal mischief. He was arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge Gerald Neveling. He’s been placed in the Clearfield County Jail in lieu of $40,000 monetary bail.

The investigation is ongoing at this time.
