WJAC-TV: Brush Fire Destroys Two Acres and Shed

GRAHAM TOWNSHIP – As spring approaches, area residents start controlled fires to burn debris on their property. While it is not illegal, it can often be dangerous.

On Wednesday afternoon, fire crews responded to a fire that originated as a controlled fire in Graham Township, Clearfield County.

Shortly after initial crews arrived at the scene, additional crews were dispatched, because the fire had become larger. Clearfield County officials declared it to be a wildfire.

Todd Howe, volunteer firefighter for Morris Township, said that the fire spread from the grass to a nearby shed. The owner of the property told WJAC-TV that the fire grew out of control and burnt two acres of his property.

Howe said that while the weather was nice Wednesday, the wind is what caused the fire to spread. Because this winter has been dry, he expects there will be numerous brush fires this year.

Fire officials urge people who plan on burning debris to be cautious. If there is gusty wind, they’re advised against burning debris.
