CLEARFIELD – Gary Macioce of DuBois has been named president of Clearfield Hospital, according to Dennis L. Merrey, chairman of both the Clearfield Hospital Board of Directors and Penn Highlands Healthcare Board of Directors. Macioce will begin at Clearfield Hospital in mid-April.

Macioce replaces David J. McConnell, president of Clearfield Hospital. McConnell was recently promoted to the position of vice president and chief financial officer of Penn Highlands Healthcare, the parent corporation of Clearfield Hospital, DuBois Regional Medical Center and Brookville Hospital.

Macioce, a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, is currently serving as the interim president of Brookville Hospital.

Prior to his role at Brookville Hospital, Macioce served as the chief operating officer of DuBois Regional Medical Center. He held that position from May 2008 until he was named interim president in Brookville in October 2011.

At DRMC, Macioce was responsible for the day-to-day operations, ensuring the efficient use of resources while still providing high quality, customer focused care for the community. He worked with the medical staff and management in regard to policies, compliance procedures and patient satisfaction. He also directed all nursing/patient service areas, human resource operations and various ancillary and support service departments.

During his tenure at DRMC, Macioce is credited with directing the formation of a physician governance and policy council to actively engage employed physicians in practice operations, planning, financial performance, patient safety, and electronic medical record development. He was also instrumental in the development of DRMC’s retail clinics within the DuBois and St. Marys Wal-Mart stores.

Raymond A. Graeca, chief executive officer of Penn Highlands Healthcare, said of Macioce, “Gary Macioce has demonstrated great integrity and leadership skills while serving DRMC and Brookville hospitals. His outstanding leadership ability, his wealth of experience in health care and his steadfast commitment to ‘always put the patient first’ make him the perfect choice to lead Clearfield Hospital.”

Merrey echoed Graeca’s sentiments and added, “We feel fortunate that Gary Macioce is taking the helm of Clearfield Hospital. His well rounded and extensive experience in both clinical and business operations will be advantageous in these challenging economic times. He will continue the tradition of excellence at Clearfield Hospital by working with patients and their families, our physicians and staff, to ensure the hospital and the communities it serves are strong and healthy.”

Macioce was formerly the vice president of operations at Uniontown Hospital, a 197-bed acute care hospital which also has outpatient services and physician practices located in Uniontown.

While at Uniontown, he was responsible for multiple hospital departments, medical staff services, physician practices and several joint ventures.

He was previously the vice president at Canonsburg General Hospital, Canonsburg, and West Allegheny Hospital, Oakdale.

Macioce attended Slippery Rock University and received his bachelor’s degree in physical therapy from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. He subsequently earned his master’s degree in health administration from the University of Pittsburgh.

A native of Clairton, Macioce now lives in DuBois with his spouse Sandy. They are the parents of triplets, Molly, Katie and Jack.

As president of Clearfield Hospital, Macioce will report to the board of directors and also Raymond A. Graeca, chief executive officer of Penn Highlands Healthcare.
