Ruth L. Nichol, 81 of DuBois died Saturday at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Presbyterian.
Born April 12, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Henry P. and Hazel L. (Smith) Liedl. On Oct. 6, 1951 she married William K. Nichol, Jr. He preceded her in death on Feb. 8, 1991.
She, along with her husband Bill, was the owner and operator of the Pine Inn in Falls Creek for 16 years during the 1960’s and 1970’s.
She was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, where she sang in the church choir and was a Eucharistic minister. She was a past president of the DuBois Country Club Ladies Auxiliary, a member of the Advisory Board of MHMR and a member of the DRMC Auxiliary.
In addition, she was a part of various United Fund Musicals of the past, such as Fiddler on the Roof and Funny Girl to name a few. She loved her children, dancing, singing, gardening, painting and entertaining her family and friends.
She is survived by 10 children, Laura Parker and her husband Gary of Charlotte, NC; William Nichol and his wife, Karen of DuBois; Andrew Nichol of Cleveland, OH; John “Jack” Nichol and his wife, Sherri of Huntington, WV; Cathy Neal and her husband, Kirk of Pittsburgh; David Nichol and his wife, Cherri of Cranberry; Mary Simms and her husband, Ken of Cortland, OH; Nancy Yaggi and her husband, Robert of Coraopolis; Robert Nichol of Polk; and Michael Nichol of DuBois.
Also surviving are three sisters, Catherine Johnson and her husband, Paul of DuBois; Mary Hannah and her husband, Donald of Reynoldsville; and Carol Rokoski and her husband, John of DuBois; a brother, Donald Liedl and his wife, Sylvia of Falls Creek; 14 grandchildren, William Nichol IV, Daniel Nichol, Collette Elgin; Kevin Parker; Nikki Yaggi; Rob Yaggi; Meagan Nichol; Kate Nichol; Zachary Neal; Natalie Neal; Alex Simms; Morgan Simms; Max Simms; and Samantha Higgs; and a great grandchild, Declan Elgin. She is also survived by her longtime companion, Dr. Wilbert Lundgren of DuBois.
She was preceded in death by her brother, William Liedl and an infant son, Richard Nichol.
Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. Monday from the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home, 211 South Main St., DuBois. A scriptural wake service will be held on at 8:30 p.m. Monday.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, at the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 15 South Ave., DuBois, with Fr. David Foradori as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery
