CURWENSVILLE — The Curwensville Golden Tide basketball team has not experienced the thrill of victory much in the 2011-2012 season. A year of changes with a new head coach and new direction have made it difficult to get many wins. But the team still comes out ready to compete, knowing that another win could be just moments away.
Inside Patton Hall, Curwensville prepared itself once again to go for the victory, this time hosting the Black Knights of Moshannon Valley.
On a snowy and cold Wednesday night, the fans in attendance got to see a close game, but at the final buzzer the home team delivered the cheers. The Golden Tide held on to get their third win of the season as they defeated the Black Knights by a final count of 49-38.
Curwensville ended the night with three players in double digit scoring, with every player assisting in the points column. Sophomore Tanner Elensky led the Tide with 14 points, going 4 for 6 at the line. Both Kyle Johns and Brett Gardner added an additional 12 points each.
On the opposing side of the court, senior Joel Martin led all scorers with 16 points, including two shots from behind the arc. The only other player to break into the double-digits for Mo Valley was Johnny Stephens with 10 points. The Black Knights had their most struggles on the free throw line, shooting less than 50% of their shots.
Now sitting at 3-15, Curwensville has one final home game on the schedule, that coming on Friday against the Kane Wolves. It is Senior Night as the graduating players and cheerleaders will be honored before the varsity contest. Tip off for the junior varsity game is set for 6 p.m. and the varsity contest will follow at approximately 7:30 p.m.
