DEP Announces Regional ISO 50001 Energy Management Systems Workshop in Ridgway

WILLIAMSPORT – The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection invites industries, businesses, utilities and local government to an introductory workshop on Wednesday, Feb. 15, about the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 50001, a program designed to promote energy efficiency and reduce operating costs for a variety of organizations.

The workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the North-central Regional Planning & Development Commission at 651 Montmorenci Road in Ridgway, Elk County.

ISO 50001 is the new energy management system standard designed to help organizations improve energy efficiency, evaluate the use of energy-efficient technology, and to reduce operating costs and improve profitability. Attendees will learn more about the concept of energy management systems and the benefits of developing and implementing one for their organization.

This workshop also includes an opportunity to learn more about the U.S. Department of Energy’s “Save Energy Now” pilot program, which is aimed at implementing and achieving certification under the American National Standards Institute-accredited “Superior Energy Performance” program. One of the program’s central elements is ISO 50001 implementation.

Edwin Pinero, Chief Sustainability Officer at Veolia Water North America, will be the guest speaker. He is independent chairman of the ISO Project Committee on Energy Management and is considered one of the country’s leading experts on ISO 50001. He has worked with numerous industries on implementing management systems.

The free ISO 50001 workshop is being offered as part of DEP’s state energy plan initiatives through a grant provided by the U.S. Department of Energy.
