Obituary Notice: John E. Berg

John Earl “Jack” Horny” Berg, 67, of Brisbin, passed away at 4:21  p.m., Jan. 24, 2012  at  the Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus.
 
He was born on Oct. 1, 1944  at Philipsburg, a son of the late John and Alice Marie (Bookhammer) Berg.
 
Mr. Berg was a 1963 graduate of Moshannon Valley High School and  served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1963 -1969.
 
He retired in 2006, as a printer operator from Kurtz Brothers of Clearfield, with over 40 years service.
 
Mr. Berg was a member of the Houtzdale MOOSE Lodge; Morann Citizens Club; Houtzdale American Legion; and the Smoke Run Croatian Club.
 
On April 1, 1967, in Niagara Falls, NY he married Jane Zendek Berg, who survives of Brisbin.  Mr. Berg  is  survived by a daughter, Jacqueline Dipko and her husband Paul of Houtzdale; two sons Robert Berg of Brisbin and Scott Berg and his wife Danelle of Ginter.
 
He is also survived by five grandchildren; Kody, Tanner and Hunter Dipko of Houtzdale, Ella Marie Berg, Ginter and step-granddaughter Kalyn Dipko of Lock Haven.
 
Mr. Berg is survived by four sisters and two brothers; Betty Colton and her husband Bill of Houtzdale; Margaret Kriner of Houtzdale;  Marietta Flood of Houtzdale; Randy Berg of Houtzdale; Richard Berg and his wife Barbara of Vineland, NJ; and Darlene Spencer and her husband William of Mahaffey.  Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
 
In addition to his parents, Mr. Berg was preceded in death by two sisters; Barbara Berg and Pastor Donna Estock; a brother, Lawrence Berg and his mother-in-law, Agnes Zendek.
 
Mr. Berg enjoyed playing softball and shooting darts, he especially enjoyed his grandchildren and watching them play sports.  He was their number one fan.
 
Friends will be received on Jan. 26 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and on Friday, Jan. 27 from 9- 11 a.m. at the Kruise Funeral Home, Inc Madera.  A MOOSE Memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
 
Funeral Services will be held on Jan. 27 at 11:00 a.m. at the Kruise Funeral Home, Inc Madera  with Pastor Dennis L. McCracken officiating. Interment will be in the American Legion Cemetery, Brisbin.  Memorial donations may be made in care of: Jane Berg P.O.
