Lady Tide Win on the Road at Ridgway, 35-23

RIDGWAY – The Curwensville Lady Tide girls basketball team used a strong third period Tuesday night to defeat Ridgway 35-23 on the Lady Elkers’ home hardwood.

It was the fourth win of the year for Lady Tide head coach Rusty McCracken and his squad. The Lady Tide have lost eight times on the 2011-12 season.

The Lady Tide had beaten Ridgway in December the first time the two teams played by a score of 39-22 on the home court of Curwensville.

Both teams found it rough going on offense to start the game with the Lady Tide holding a 5-2 edge after the first quarter was over.

Curwensville did find some offense in the second period scoring 11 to Ridgway’s nine to take a five point lead into intermission, 16-11.

It was, however, the third eight minutes that sealed the deal for the visiting Lady Tide as they added 10 points to their margin when they outscored Ridgway 13-3 to go out in front 29-14 with just one quarter left.

McCracken talked about two of his players who were keys to the win on the night, “Katrina (Seaburn) had a great night on the boards with 15 rebounds and a lot of times she goes up against taller opponents . And Ciara (Strickland) kept the offense moving with 11 points tonight.”

Seaburn also had eight points while teammate Savannah Strickland added seven in the victory for the Lady Tide.

Nicole Breier had a game high 12 points to pace the Lady Elkers offense.

McCracken added a final comment saying, “At first I thought we were having a letdown because we had beaten Ridgway earlier, but then I realized that we were playing on the road. But the girls gutted it out and survived to get the win.”

Curwensville won the junior varsity game, 30-25, behind 10 points from Tiara Bumbarger.

The Lady Tide will travel to Glendale on Wednesday in a make-up battle against the Lady Vikings with the junior varsity tilt starting at 6 pm and the varsity game to follow immediately.

The Lady Vikings were victorious the first time the two teams tangled, 54-36, at Curwensville.
