CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Area School District Board of Directors authorized its attorney Goehring, Rutter & Boehm to prepare and serve a complaint with regard to the Girard-Goshen Elementary School roof for an amount not to exceed $8,000 at Monday night’s regular meeting.

“It’s procedural,” board President Dave Glass said when asked by members of the media afterward. “We’re getting the ball rolling to see if insurance will pick it up. If insurance can’t settle, it could go to court.”

Superintendent Dr. Thomas B. Otto said the district hasn’t had anyone step forward to help them. He said it’s greatly hampered the board’s decisions regarding the renovation of elementary buildings.

“We don’t have $1.5 million to repair the roof,” he said. Glass said they were working toward some resolution, and this was merely the beginning of that process.

In October 2010, the district temporarily closed Girard-Goshen because of structural and safety concerns surrounding its roof. Girard-Goshen students and school’s faculty have been attending the Clearfield Elementary since the temporary closure.
