Fugitive Michael Carter Captured

CLEARFIELD – Clearfield County District Attorney William A. Shaw Jr. has announced the capture of a wanted fugitive.

Shaw identified the fugitive as Michael Carter, 38, of Post Office Road, Mineral Springs.

Carter was added to the Clearfield County Fugitive of the Week list on Jan. 3.

On Oct. 20, 2011, the Clearfield Borough Police Department filed a criminal complaint, charging Carter with theft by unlawful taking or disposition and receiving stolen property.

An affidavit of probable cause filed states that in October 2011, the Clearfield Borough Police Department began an investigation into the theft of a chainsaw from a residence on Ogden Avenue in Clearfield Borough. Upon investigation it was found that Carter had unlawfully taken the victim’s chainsaw, which was valued at approximately $400.

A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Dec. 7, 2011 at which time Carter failed to appear and a bench warrant was issued for his arrest.

Shaw stated that on Jan. 9, Carter voluntarily surrendered himself, and he was taken into custody. Carter is currently lodged in the Clearfield County Jail.

Shaw thanked the Clearfield County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance with this case.
