The Penn State Alumni Association family is deeply saddened by the death of Joe Paterno, legendary coach, educator, mentor and leader. To the Penn State family, and to millions around the world, Joe Paterno is Penn State. It is impossible to think of our alma mater without his guiding presence in our midst.
We send our heartfelt condolences to the Paterno family and pledge to honor Coach Paterno’s life and legacy. Coach Paterno was a powerful force in elevating our University in all ways for 61 years – which is nearly 40 percent of Penn State’s 156-year history.
He is beloved by our alumni and friends. We will never see his like again. We grieve with our entire alumni family over the passing of the man who, more than any other, was Penn State.
