PHILIPSBURG – A Philipsburg couple currently faces charges of terroristic threats and interference with the custody of their children after an incident that occurred from 5:35 p.m. Thursday to 7:30 a.m. today.
The Philipsburg-based state police identified the couple as Michael Alan Parkes, 47, and Melanie Kay Suhoney, 36, both of Philipsburg. Both were arraigned and released on $10,000 unsecured bail. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for them at 8:30 a.m. Jan. 25.
According to the report, state police responded to assist the Centre County Children and Youth Services with gaining custody of minor children. When they were attempting to serve court orders and gain custody, Parkes allegedly threatened to shoot them and any officers who attempted to.
Then, Parkes and Suhoney allegedly refused to surrender the children, and a standoff ensued and continued until approximately 7:30 a.m. today. Parkes and Suhoney surrendered to state police outside of their residence. The children were found unharmed and taken into custody by CYS.
