MILL HALL — Just over halfway into the 2011-2012 season, the Clearfield Lady Bisons have more than doubled their win total from one season ago. For the second time this year, the team was riding a four-game win streak, and looking to extend that to five as the month of January continued.
In order to extend that streak, the Lady Bisons had to do so on the road as they made the long drive to Mill Hall to take on the Lady Wildcats of Central Mountain.
But, as the old saying goes, all good things must come to an end.
Despite a valiant effort by the Lady Bisons, Central Mountain was up to the task and put the pressure on Clearfield all game long. At the final buzzer, it was the Lady Wildcats on the better end of the scoreboard as they were victorious by a final of 50-37. It was the first loss for Clearfield since January 6 when they fell to Punxsutawney.
The key player for the Lady Wildcats was Rimma Heverly as she put up a game-high 26 points, including 11 in the second quarter, with 50 percent of her shots going in the basket. Sarah Jensen added 13 points and 13 rebounds.
For Clearfield, the only scorer in double figures was Brianna Peters who had 14 points.
Now sitting at 8-4, Clearfield has a chance to get back on track Friday night, and will do so in front of the home crowd at the Clearfield Area High School. It will be their toughest opponent to date as the Lady Bisons will face off against the Lady Eagles of Bald Eagle Area, who are coming off a 52-48 win Tuesday night over West Branch, and have not lost a game since a 69-51 defeat by Forest Hills in the championship of the Boswell Christmas Tournament.
Tip off will be at 6 p.m. for the jayvee game, with the varsity contest to follow after.
