UPDATE::Winter Weather Causes I-80 Accidents

UPDATE :: According to the state police in DuBois, I-80 easbtound reopened late Monday night at around 11:23 p.m.

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP – On Monday, lake effect snow brought snow, some  heavy at times across the region. 

According to Gant news partner WJACTV.com, in Jefferson County, it only took a little wintry weather to create some slick spots on Interstate 80. 

Around 3 p.m. on Monday, officials reported a 20-plus vehicle accident near Falls Creek. 

Reports came out stating that there were several entrapments in result of the accident between mile-marker 90 and 91 on Interstate 80 eastbound. 

Jefferson County Emergency Management Director, Tracy Zents, told 6 News, at least 20 semis and other vehicles were involved. 

Zents said  17 people were taken to various hospitals in the area. 

Currently, a number of victims are at the Dubois Regional Medical Center. 

Zents said, there were no fatalities reported on scene. However, he said there are a number of serious injuries.
