Obituary Notice: Albert R. Hinkle

Albert R. Hinkle, Jr., age 90, of Clearfield, died on December 11, 2011 at the Mountain Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield.

He was born on February 21, 1921 at Clearfield, a son of the late Albert R. and Florence (Kling) Hinkle.

Mr. Hinkle retired as a Senior Claims Adjuster for the Hartford Insurance Company in 1988.  He also retired in 1981 as a Lieutenant Colonel,
having served with the United States Air Force Reserve.  Mr. Hinkle was aveteran of the United States Army Air Corps during World War II, serving
with the 8th Air Force where he was a Bombardier on a B-17.  His plane wasshot down in April of 1944 and he was a Prisoner of War for a year in
Germany.

He was a life time member of the Presbyterian Church of Clearfield where he served as a Trustee and Auditor.  He was a graduate of
Clearfield High School class of 1940, and also graduated from Penn State University in 1950.  At Penn State, he was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta
Fraternity and the Blue Key Society.  Mr. Hinkle was a member of the Nittany Lion Club for many years, the Penn State Alumni Association and the Penn
State DuBois Campus Alumni Society.  He was also a member and past commanderof the Clearfield American Legion John Lewis Shade Post #6 and a member ofthe Clearfield Veterans of Foreign War, F. Michael Sicks Post #1785 and theRetired Officers Association.  In addition, Mr. Hinkle was a member for over 50 years with the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge #540,Clearfield, the Clearfield Fire Co. #1 and the Central Mountains Region Antique Automobile Club of America.

Mr. Hinkle served on the board of the Joseph and Elizabeth Shaw Library and was a member and held the president’s position with the
Pennsylvania Boat and Fish Commission in the 1950’s.

He is survived by his wife, Anna Vaughan Lee Hinkle, whom he married on June 6, 1949; three children, Susan Hinkle Rosenberg and husband
David of DuBois, Richard Philip Hinkle of Sarasota, FL and Edward Joseph Hinkle of Pleasant Gap; and two grandchildren, Joshua Ian and Emily Ann
Rosenberg.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, James, Robert and Dr. Edward Hinkle.

A memorial service will be held at the Presbyterian Church, Clearfield on Saturday at 12 PM with Rev. J. Robert Mellgard and Richard B.
Barkley officiating.  Interment will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Clearfield.

Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the members of the Clearfield Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Posts Honor Guard.
