WJACTV.com: PSU to Donate $1.5 Million from Bowl Game

UNIVERSITY PARK – Since the Jerry Sandusky sex abuse scandal broke nearly four weeks ago, many people have questioned if the Penn State University football team should accept a bowl game bid in deference to the allegations.

Thursday, school officials announced a plan to address some of those concerns. The university has promised to donate $1.5 million of its share from any postseason bowl game revenue to two sex-crime prevention groups: Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape and the National Sexual Violence Resource Center. The money will come from Penn State’s share of Big 10 bowl revenue. As of Thursday, it is not known what bowl game the 9-3 Nittany Lions will be invited to.

The decision follows a forum staged on the University Park campus Wednesday night, which gave Penn State students their first opportunity to talk with school administrators about the scandal. Nearly 100 students attended the town hall-style meeting and heard new President Rodney Erickson pledge to raise ethics at Penn State to a new level.
