UPDATE::Warrant Service Ends Tragically

CLEARFIELD – The state police in Philipsburg have issued a report updating the information provided in the story below.

According to PSP Philipsburg, on Nov. 19 Shawn A. Demko, 32, was charged with eight felonies and six misdemeanors, for his alleged role in the robbery of Grattan’s Pharmacy. A warrant was issued for his arrest.

On Nov. 20, police attempted to take Demko into custody at his residence on Maple Avenue. Police said he refused to exit his residence and surrender.

A state police Emergency Response Team was called in and negotiations were opened. Police said negotiations were unsuccessful and Demko shot himself, ultimately dying from his self-inflicted wounds.

Police are continuing to gather infromation regarding the Grattan’s robbery in an attempt to identify an additional suspect. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 814-342-3370.

A warrant service in Lawrence Township ended in tragedy.

According to a report by the state police, on Sunday troopers attempted to serve an arrest warrant and met with negative results. Numerous attempts were met also met with negative results. The report states that when police made entry they found the subject to have a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The person was transported to Clearfield Hospital then Altoona Regional, where he passed away from the gunshot wound.

The Lawrence Township Police Department reported they were called to assist at the scene, where the subject had barricaded himself in his house. The LTPD assisted in the evacuation of residents from the area.

Police said the investigation is ongoing. No other information was provided and no other information was available at the time of this posting.
