A single-vehicle accident was reported at 1:30 p.m. Friday along Interstate 80 at mile marker 117 in Lawrence Township, Clearfield County. A 41-year-old Northumberland woman was traveling westbound when she became distracted. Her vehicle’s left wheels traveled off the pavement and onto the southern berm at which time she over-steered, as she attempted to maneuver her vehicle back onto the roadway.
Her vehicle then slid across both lanes of travel and struck the guiderails on the northern berm with its right front. Her vehicle spun around in a clockwise direction and struck the guiderails with its left rear before continuing to spin in a clockwise direction. Her vehicle again struck the guiderails with its front end and came to a final rest against the guiderails on the north berm.
She and her passenger sustained injuries, but their severity were unknown. Both were wearing their safety belts at the time of the accident. The woman will be cited for driving on roadways laned for traffic. Police were assisted by the Lawrence Township Fire Department.
