CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County Commissioners announced that James Schuckers of Clearfield will be filling in at the county’s Veterans Affairs office a couple days a week. His salary hasn’t yet been set, and he’ll work as an independent contractor.

Commissioner Mark B. McCracken said that Schuckers previously served as the county’s Veterans Affairs director in the early to mid-1990’s and was in that capacity for approximately four years.

Additionally, Commissioner Chairperson Joan Robinson-McMillen said the Centre County Veterans Affairs office will also be assisting Clearfield veterans once a month out of their office.

She said the commissioners are currently accepting applications for someone to permanently fill the position. According to a previous GantDaily report, they’ll begin attempting to fill the position in mid-November, and any interested person should submit their application online or mail it to the county’s administrative offices. Robinson-McMillen said Tuesday that the board doesn’t want to belabor the hiring process and will take as long as it needs to find the right candidate.

Last Wednesday, former director Dominick Kurtz stepped down as the head of the Veterans Affairs office. Robinson-McMillen said then that he’d resigned for “personal reasons.”
