CRANBERRY — The #11 seed Curwensville Lady Tide traveled to #6 seed Cranberry Tuesday night in first round District IX playoff action.
The result was a Cranberry sweep and an end to the Lady Tide’s season at 9-9. The scores were 23- 25, 16-25, and 20-25.
Cranberry will move on to the quarterfinals were they will face #3 seed AC Valley on Thursday. All of the higher seeded teams won their matches on Tuesday night. Port Allegany holds the number one seed.
Lady Tide head coach Sandy Bailor talked about her team’s loss, ” The first set was a hard fought volleyball set; we battled back and forth with Cranberry with long volleys. It was a fun set to watch, we just came up short in the end with a couple hard hits from Cranberry’s middle hitter. The second set we had trouble with our serve recieve and that effected our offense. We had to free alot of balls over which gave Cranberry the opportunity to use their big girls up front. Our third set we came out flat footed but battled back again with alot of long volleys. Our serve receive was alot better in this set which gave us the opportunity to set up our offense, we just came up short at the end. I thought Savannah Strickland and Katrina Seaburn did a nice job at the net with the big girls – they got some touches on blocks that helped slow the ball down which helped our libero Hannah Bressler and our wings Tierra Shope, Abby Johnson and Ricki Wells with our defense. Madi Peterman and Olivia Prave did a nice job getting the ball to both our outside hitters and middle hitters by mixing it up. I thought the girls played hard tonight we just didnt play consistently enough to win; I was very pleased with our serving we only had two service errors for the match.”
Lady Tide Stats:
Hannah Bressler – 30 digs
Abby Johnson – 15 digs
Madison Peterman – 5 service points, 15 assists
Savannah Strickland – 10 kills, 2 blocks
Ricki Wells – 5 kills, 8 serice points with 3 aces
Katrina Seaburn – 7 kills
Olivia Prave – 8 service points, 13 assists
Tierra Shope – 6 kills, 14 digs
Afterwards Bailor reflected on the Lady TIde season and was already looking forward to next year, “We had a good season, something we can build on for next year with the younger group coming up. Seniors Hannah Bressler, Miranda Elensky, Madison Petrman, Savannah Strickland and Ricki Wells played in their last match of their HS career, they gave alot to the program and they will all be sorely missed.”
