One Person Flown to Hospital After Accident

Five Others Transported for Medical Treatment

PHILIPSBURG – A person was flown to the Altoona Regional Health System Trauma Center following a two-vehicle accident at 6:43 p.m. Sunday along U.S. Route 322 about four miles east of Philipsburg Borough in Rush Township, Centre County.

In addition, five others were transported to the Mount Nittany Medical Center for treatment of injuries, the Philipsburg-based state police said. The vehicles’ occupants weren’t identified, and the severity of their injuries wasn’t indicated in the report.

According to the accident report, a vehicle was traveling eastbound at which time it swerved into the westbound lane to avoid striking a deer. The vehicle struck another, causing major damage to both.

All vehicle occupants were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident, police said.  Police were assisted at the scene by the Port Matilda, Philipsburg and Morrisdale fire departments and the Moshannon Valley Emergency Medical Services.
