HARRISBURG – The state departments of Public Welfare and Labor & Industry are marking National Disability Employment Awareness Month by encouraging employers to consider hiring Pennsylvanians living with disabilities.
“The Department of Public Welfare is committed to those living with a disability by providing the services and supports needed to enter the workforce,” said Secretary of Public Welfare Gary D. Alexander. “In turn, we hope that employers recognize that these individuals are ready to work and will make meaningful contributions at every level.”
This year’s theme for National Disability Employment Awareness Month is “Profit by Investing in Workers with Disabilities,” which promotes the valuable contributions people with disabilities make to America’s economy. The month-long observance highlights the need for better access and equality in the workplace for individuals with disabilities.
“Ensuring all Pennsylvanians have access to the education and training they need to live independently and productively is among our core responsibilities,” said Labor & Industry Secretary Julia Hearthway. “Connecting individuals with these opportunities is an important step toward a better future for them, and for Pennsylvania.”
