Women’s soccer moves up in national polls

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Nittany Lion women’s soccer received a boost from its 2-0 weekend by moving up in each of the four notable national women’s soccer polls on Tuesday. The now No. 18 Nittany Lions according to the NSCAA are in the Top 20 in the SoccerTimes.com, Soccer America and TopDrawerSoccer.com rankings.

Penn State (11-3-0, 4-1-0 Big Ten) is currently riding its second five-game winning streak of the year and the voters have taken notice. The NSCAA coaches pegged Penn State 18th, a six-spot jump from last week, while the Nittany Lions check in at 20th in the other coaches-only poll, SoccerTimes.com, a three-spot move.

As for online publications, Soccer America tabbed the Nittany Lions one spot up to 18th, while TopDrawerSoccer.com saw it fit to move PSU up five slots to 16th.

Various Penn State opponents are in each of the polls including Stanford, who is the unanimous top choice in the country, Virginia and Central Florida, 16th and 24th in the NSCAA poll, respectively. West Virginia and Ohio State make appearances in the Soccer America poll at 22nd and 23rd, respectively.

Penn State travels to Armstrong Stadium for a matchup with the Indiana Hoosiers on Saturday at 11 a.m. ET. The Nittany Lions hold an 18-1-1 all-time mark against IU with a current 16-game unbeaten streak dating back to 1996. Last year, Penn State downed the Hoosiers, 6-1, at Jeffrey Field. Penn State is 7-0-1 at Armstrong against Indiana.
