DUBOIS – A DuBois man was critically injured and hospitalized in Pittsburgh after his pick-up truck collided with a train Thursday night on DuBois Street.
The DuBois City Police Department identified the accident victim as Joseph Clinton of DuBois. He was initially transported to the DuBois Regional Medical Center before being flown to the Altoona Regional Health System and onto Pittsburgh for further medical treatment.
According to the accident report, Clinton was traveling north on DuBois Street at approximately 7 p.m. at which time he failed to stop for an approaching train. His pick-up truck was subsequently struck in the driver’s side as he attempted to cross the tracks.
Police said Clinton’s pick-up truck was pushed approximately 300 feet down the tracks after the collision, before the train came to a stop. When police arrived at the scene, Clinton was unresponsive and trapped inside his pick-up truck. He was extricated by emergency personnel.
Witnesses at the scene told police the railroad warning lights were working properly, and the train was sounding its horn as it approached the crossing. The accident remains under investigation at this time.
DuBois City Police were assisted at the scene by the Sandy Township Police, the Dubois Volunteer Fire Department and AmServe Ambulance personnel.
