DUBOIS – The 4th Annual DuBois Area Historical Society Spirit of DuBois Lantern Walk will venture into one of DuBois’ most historical areas, the site of the DuBois Brewery on Oct. 15, with tours leaving from the United Way office on Jared St. beginning at 6 p.m.

“We thank the United Way for allowing the DuBois Area Historical Society to use its office as the starting point for the walk,” said Tom Schott, chair of the Spirit of DuBois Lantern Walk committee. “Preparations for this program started 10 months ago and the historical society believes it has gathered some significant history that will be presented in an entertaining fashion. No one will leave this walk without learning something new about the community.”

Admission to the Spirit of DuBois Lantern Walk is $5 for adults and $3 for students, with children sixth grade and younger free if accompanied by an adult. All proceeds benefit the DuBois Area Historical Society. The program is suitable for all ages.

The first tour will leave the United Way at 6 p.m. with tours to follow every 20 minutes. Parking is available at the United Way building and across the street at KMA Remarketing.

“A great deal of history happened at the site and along the surrounding streets,” said Schott. “Some of the “Spirits” to be encountered include some intimate with brewery operations, a prohibitionist, a child, a grave businessman, two ethnic characters, and keeping up a tradition, a contented animal. A tent visit is also among the activities. We invite the entire community to come out and support the historical society. This is your history, come and experience it.”

Performing as “Spirits” for the program are:  Susan Ayrault, Mark Falvo, Frank and Kathy Foulkrod, Robin Maddox, Carolyn Rhoades, Ginny Schott, Tom Shade, Todd Shindledecker, and Caleb Thompson.

Four hundred and sixty-one people attended in the first three Lantern Walks. To make advance reservations for a specific walk time, telephone 814-371-4627 between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m. Tour groups will be limited to 20 people.
