Penn State-Iowa clash set for 3:30 p.m. kick

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State’s Big Ten home opener against Iowa on Oct. 8 will kick at 3:30 p.m. in Beaver Stadium. The ABC regional telecast will air nationally on ESPN outside of the ABC coverage area.

Penn State’s undefeated 1986 National Championship team will be honored at the Iowa game, which also will air on the Penn State Sports Network and www.GoPSUsports.com.

The contest against the Hawkeyes is the Nittany Lions’ eighth announced kick time and seventh announced telecast of the season. Penn State will be making its fifth appearance of the season on an ESPN-owned network, with this Saturday’s Big Ten opener at Indiana airing on ESPNU. Last week’s game vs. Eastern Michigan was on ESPN2, the Temple game was on ESPN and the Alabama clash was an ESPN on ABC national telecast.

The Nittany Lions (3-1) and Hawkeyes will be meeting for the 24th time, with Iowa taking a 12-11 series lead with last year’s win in Iowa City. The teams are in the midst of playing for six consecutive years (2007-12), with next year’s game in Kinnick Stadium. After the Oct. 8 game, Iowa will not play in Beaver Stadium again until at least 2015, as the Hawkeyes, who are in the Big Ten Legends Division, rotate off Penn State’s schedule in 2013 and ’14.
