DUBOIS – Sandy Township Manager Dick Castonguay recognized 11 residents who aided in the flood relief efforts.

Ten firemen took the township boat to Bloomsburg and one member of the township staff was called for military duty to assist elsewhere.

“The people who went down did an excellent job.  We can be very proud of them,” said Castonguay.

Castonguay mentioned that the crew in Bloomsburg had initially been stationed in the firehouse.  They woke up the next morning to find two feet of water.  They relocated to the YMCA to continue rescue efforts.  They even took a detour back home to the township to assist in another area after being asked to help while filling up at a gas station.

The township’s own flood plain ordinance was said to be advertised beginning September 20 and would be voted on at the next public meeting.
