HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency has approved $3 million in federal and state grants to support effective community programs and services for youth, provide virtual training for law enforcement, and support vital services for victims of crime, including mass violence incidents.
“PCCD remains committed to implementing initiatives aimed at curbing youth violence and assisting crime victims,” said PCCD Chairman Mark Zimmer. “Investing funds toward evidence-based programs to prevent juvenile crime saves taxpayers money by reducing future costs in the juvenile and criminal justice systems. PCCD also continues its support to law enforcement personnel, ensuring they receive the necessary training to keep our communities safe.”
The grants, approved at the Commission’s September 13th quarterly meeting, include:
- $2.3 million in state violence prevention funds to implement or expand programs designed to prevent youth from entering the juvenile justice system and promote positive behaviors with youngsters and their families.
- Approximately $300,000 in federal funds for the Pennsylvania Virtual Training Network, which will provide online training for 23,000 police officers statewide.
- The commission also approved the reallocation of $50,000 in federal Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) funds toward the continuation of the Keystone Crisis Intervention Team (KCIT), which facilitates crisis intervention services to crime victims and their communities in the aftermath of a traumatic event in the commonwealth.
The Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency is the state’s lead agency for criminal justice policy issues, providing support service to law enforcement agencies, victims of crime and communities.
