Kelsey Amy named Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State junior standout Kelsey Amy (Sweet Valley, Pa.) has been named Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week for her outstanding performances against No. 13 Princeton and Quinnipiac this past week. Amy earns her third Offensive Player of the Week award from the conference, last winning it on Nov.1, 2010.

Amy scored a total of six goals this past week against the Tigers and Bobcats. Amy’s first two goals came last Thursday in a 4-3 loss at Princeton. Sophomore Whitney Reddig (Lititz, Pa.) played a ball off the corner to Amy, where she blasted the ball, which deflected off a Princeton defender and found the back of the cage to give PSU a 1-0 lead. Amy would then score her second goal later in the game off another corner assist from Reddig.

Amy’s big day came last Sunday, when she scored four goals against Quinnipiac in a 6-1 victory. The four tallies tied her career-high, as she has reached the mark three times. The last time Amy scored four goals in a game came at Northwestern on Oct. 29, 2010, earning her Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week at that time as well.

Joining Amy for the Co-Offensive Player of the Week award is Iowa’s Kim Scraper. Penn State will hit the road this weekend to take on No. 9 Duke and Virginia Commonwealth. The Nittany Lions will then return home on Sept. 22 to host Temple at 6 p.m.
