AccuWeather.com Reports Flash Flooding Across Mid-Atlantic, Northeast

STATE COLLEGE – AccuWeather.com reports flash flooding is breaking out across the mid-Atlantic and Northeast in response to heavy rain associated with the remnants of Lee. Flood waters are engulfing roadways and prompting school closings.

“It’s a deadly situation until the rain stops,” said AccuWeather.com Senior Meteorologist Henry Margusity. “People who decide to drive through flooded roadways are taking their life into their own hands.”

Residents in the Washington, D.C., metro area have reported that roads are already being closed due to flooding.

Gregory Bailey from New York commented on Facebook, “Massive amounts of flooding in New York again. Evacuation orders along the Schoharie… roads closing… schools let out early if not closed. We just can’t catch a break here.”

In Lebanon County, Pa., flood waters have reportedly entered homes, forced road closure and prompted schools to let students out early before the situation gets worse.

Bands of heavy rain stretching from eastern Virginia to upstate New York will continue wreaking havoc into tonight. “Areas of intense rain should taper off south of the Mason-Dixon line this evening but could continue well into tonight farther north,” stated AccuWeather.com Expert Senior Meteorologist Alex Sosnowski.

Sosnowski has more details on the rain and what to expect with the region’s flooded streams and rising rivers.

Parts of Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey have already picked up 6 to 10 inches of rain from Lee as of 8 a.m. EDT Wednesday. Another several inches of rain will fall in some areas through Thursday.
