PHILIPSBURG – A Morrisdale man accused of trying to steal from a vehicle was apprehended by a concerned neighbor.
According to state police in Philipsburg, troopers were called out on Sept. 3 to the 200 block of North Fourth Street. A Philipsburg woman witnessed the Morrisdale man attempt to enter vehicles. When she saw him gain access to a vehicle she approached him and attempted to stop him from rummaging through vehicles. The man reportedly shoved her and fled on foot.
The woman chased the man and took him to the ground. After a brief struggle, he was able to get away and again fled. She chased him, and again took him to the ground. The man reportedly shoved, kicked and struck the woman with his hand. With the assistance of her husband and a neighbor, the man was detained until police arrived.
The man was found to be under the influence of alcohol and in the possession of drug paraphernalia. He was charged with criminal attempt to commit theft, possession of drug paraphernalia, harassment, disorderly conduct, underage drinking and public intoxication. He was taken to Centre County Jail to await arraignement.
