Hayes, Rosenbluth earn weekly women’s soccer accolades

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Two Nittany Lion women’s soccer standouts, Maya Hayes (West Orange, N.J.) and Jess Rosenbluth (Gladwyne, Pa.), were tabbed by the Big Ten and TopDrawerSoccer.com weekly awards list, respectively, on Monday afternoon.

Hayes, who posted a three-goal weekend against No. 17 West Virginia and Richmond, was named the Big Ten’s Offensive Player of the Week. Hayes notched her first multi-goal match in a 5-0 drilling of West Virginia on Friday. She added another tally, the game-winner, in a 3-0 win over visiting Richmond on Sunday. The award is Hayes’s first Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honor.

Rosenbluth, who had matching three-point efforts against WVU and Richmond, was tabbed by TopDrawerSoccer.com on its Team of the Week list. Rosenbluth tallied a goal and assist in each game as the Nittany Lions rolled to their third straight shutout victory this past weekend.

Rosenbluth and Hayes are tied with Taylor Schram (Canonsburg, Pa.) for the Penn State point lead with eight apiece. Hayes has four goals this year, one shy of the five she scored last season, while Rosenbluth and Schram have an equal two-goal, four-assist line.

Penn State is enjoying a three-game winning streak buoyed by 12 goals and three shutouts dating back to its 4-0 win over Nevada on Aug. 21. The Nittany Lions travel west to the Pitt Soccer Classic, taking on N.C. State at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Penn State’s game on Sunday will be determined following Friday’s results. Colorado College and Pittsburgh are also participating in the tournament.
