Penn State Lehigh Valley freshman Matt Baranoski, of Perkasie, Pa., earned a bronze medal in the kilometer race at the 2011 Union Cycliste Internationale Junior Track World Championships held in Moscow, Russia, from Aug. 17-21. His third-place finish marked just the second time Baranoski has competed in this event in his career, and was the first medal for the USA Cycling contingent at the 2011 competition.
Baranoski also had a strong seventh-place finish in both the men’s sprint event and the men’s keirin.
In addition to athletics, Baranoski also is an academic standout, having been admitted to Penn State’s Schreyer Honors College, which represents the top five percent of students at the University.
