2011 PSU Women’s Soccer Promotions

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State women’s soccer opens its 2011 home slate of games on Friday against West Virginia and the Nittany Lions have announced new and exciting promotions. With the help of the newly formed Park Avenue Army supporters group and the great fans of Nittany Nation, the 2011 season will be rocking at Jeffrey Field once again.

FRIDAY, AUG. 26 – WEST VIRGINIA, 7:30 p.m.
Penn State will once again try to break the single-game attendance record for a women’s soccer match at Jeffrey Field in its season opener. The past two season openers have seen an excess of 3,000 fans, including 3,900+ who saw Penn State and Virginia fight to a thrilling 1-1 draw last August. All fans have the chance to pick up their 2011 commemorative poster and magnet.

This season, the Park Avenue Army (PAA) debuts starting with a free BBQ cookout in the grass lots surrounding Jeffrey Field provided by Carver’s Deli starting at 6:30 p.m. The first 250 students joining PAA will receive free t-shirts before marching over to the match. All students in attendance will earn Code Blue Points, PSU’s new student rewards program. One student will win a $100 gift card to the Penn State Bookstore by attending the match. Also, students in the Park Avenue Army will get free pizza at halftime.

SUNDAY, AUG. 28 – RICHMOND, 2:30 p.m.
The second Penn State home game will be Camp Day and Mascot Day at Jeffrey Field. The first 100 campers wearing their official Penn State camp shirts will receive a signed program from a Nittany Lion student-athlete. Also, PSU welcomes Centre Soccer Association to the match in the first of many "Kickin’ it With…" promotions where Penn State highlights a local supporting group. Following the match, the first of three Sunday post-game autograph sessions will take place under the West Stands behind the team benches.

FRIDAY, SEPT. 23 – NORTHWESTERN, 7 p.m.
The Nittany Lions return to Jeffrey Field for the first time in September welcoming Northwestern to town for its Big Ten home opener. As with every night game, Park Avenue Army will host a pre-game BBQ cookout. Posters and magnets will be given out prior to the match and the Nittany Lions will be Kickin’ it With Blair County kids.

SUNDAY, SEPT. 25 – ILLINOIS, 1 p.m.
Penn State welcomes nationally ranked Illinois to Jeffrey for Faculty Appreciation Day where all Penn State staff members are honored during the game. At halftime, 11 of the Penn State men’s soccer team will take on 100 kids in the first of two 11 vs. 100 soccer games. The Nittany Lions will be Kickin’ it With Bedford County and Huntington County kids prior to a post-game autograph session. The first 150 fans will also receive free women’s soccer eco-friendly grocery bags.

THURSDAY, SEPT. 29 – OHIO STATE, 7 p.m.
The most important game of the Big Ten regular season takes place in late September on Jeffrey Field when the two reigning Big Ten Champions tangle in another hotly contested matchup. The Ohio State game serves as Penn State women’s soccer Code Blue Blast where students can earn triple points for attending the match. Park Avenue Army will host a BBQ cookout in the grass lots surrounding Jeffrey Field for students before marching to the stadium. Soccer Training Network will be featured in the "Kickin’ it With…" segment.

FRIDAY, OCT. 14 – NEBRASKA, 7 p.m.
The Nittany Lions welcome Nebraska for the Cornhuskers’ first visit to Happy Valley as a Big Ten member in any sport on Pink Day. All donations and proceeds will be donated to Mount Nittany Medical Center for breast cancer research. That weekend is also Homecoming with many events surrounding the annual festivities. PAA will host a BBQ cookout and fans will welcome the Cornhuskers with free popcorn when attending the match against the Big Ten’s newest member.

SUNDAY, OCT. 16 – IOWA, 11 a.m.
The first game in a Penn State soccer doubleheader as the women face Iowa and the men take on Northwestern. The women’s soccer team will host Kids Club Day and Military Appreciation Day. The first 50 kids will receive insulated school lunch bags. Penn State’s ROTC programs will be assisting with a rock climbing wall and bringing multiple military vehicles to the game including a Humvee and a Blackhawk helicopter. A now annual tradition, the Army and Navy ROTC programs will face off at halftime and the PSU women’s soccer student-athletes will sign autographs after the game before the Penn Sate-Northwestern men’s match.

FRIDAY, OCT. 28 – PURDUE, 7 p.m.
The final home game of the 2011 season will honor the Nittany Lion seniors. Park Avenue Army will once again be hosting a BBQ cookout and the Nittany Lions will welcome back all the women’s soccer alumnae. At halftime a Halloween Costume Halftime Contest will take place with the winner taking home a great prize.
