Daytime Delays Expected on SR 53 in Irvona as Bridge Work Continues

CLEARFIELD – Motorists should expect daytime delays next week as work continues on state Route 53 to replace the Irvona truss bridge. The contractor on the project will begin to erect beams for the new structure starting Aug. 30.

Northbound and southbound traffic on SR 53 in the borough of Irvona will experience delays due to beams being set Aug. 30 through Sept. 2. All beam-setting will take place on those days between the hours of 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Traffic will be stopped for approximately 20 minutes each time a beam is put into place, which will be about four times per day. The sidewalk on the existing bridge will also be closed during the work.

The project includes replacing the current bridge with a new, four-span, concrete beam bridge, reconstruction of the SR 53/SR 3005 (Saint Lawrence Road) intersection, flood protection embankment, roadway paving, pavement markings and miscellaneous construction. New Enterprise Stone and Lime Co., Inc. is the contractor on this $4 million job. All work is weather dependent.

The Irvona truss spans Clearfield Creek in the borough of Irvona, Clearfield County. The truss is 71 years old; built in 1940.  It is 274 feet long and carries 4,412 vehicles a day.
