Obituary Notice: William O. Shugarts

William O. Shugarts, 91, of in Troutville died Saturday at the DuBois Nursing Home.

He was born on April 14, 1920 in Troutville and the son of the late Norman and Willa (Schoch) Shugarts.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during World War II. He retired from Crescent Brick Plant in Falls Creek after more than 35 years of service.  Prior to that, he worked in the Cramer Mines.

He was a member of the Troutville Trinity United Church of Christ, the National Rifle Association, and the Sykesville American Legion Post #345.  He played baseball in his younger years in Cramer and Troutville

On Jan. 11, 1944, he married Dorothy L. (Heckel) Shugarts, whom preceded him in death on Feb. 18, 2011.

He is survived by a daughter, Donna Shugarts and a son, William Shugarts and his wife, Vickie of DuBois; a brother, Ronald Shugarts and his wife, Martha of Punxsutawney; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Norman “Bud” Shugarts.

There will be no public visitation.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Troutville Trinity United Church of Christ with Pastor Mary Ellen Hoffman officiating.

Full military honors will be accorded by the members of the DuBois Area Honor Guard from the church.

Burial will follow in Troutville Trinity United Church of Christ Cemetery.

Memorials can be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
