DUBOIS – The Kiwanis Trail project nears substantial completion and with that will be inspected next week by the USDA.
Part of the process for the project, with it nearing substantial completion an United States Department of Agriculture Representative, John Williams, will be walking the project next week to see what has been done.
The pump house and tank have been fully installed and tested. Tests have revealed two leaks at the site. One tank in the overfill piping and two minor leaks in the telemetry building, according to Township Manager Richard Castonguay.
The telemetry building will allow for digitalized tracking of chemicals and water levels for reporting. There was an optional addition to the system that would have allowed township officials to remote check the status of the system. The addition was not purchased by the township.
“With buildings like that it is best to go in them every so many days,” said Castonguay.
Citizens who get their drinking water from the Sandy Township Municipal Authority will be receiving letters soon advising that the township went over the allowance of haloacetic acids in their water over the last year. The Department of Environment protection allows 60 parts per billion, and the township measured 63.89 parts per billion for the year.
