UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — With precautionary measures complete and no surgery required, Penn State coach Joe Paterno was released from the hospital late Tuesday (Aug. 9) morning, worked on the day’s practice plans and is looking forward to being at Wednesday’s practice.
"It’s time for everyone to turn the attention to the team," Paterno said. "We have a lot of hard work ahead in order to be as good as we think we can be."
Paterno sustained injuries to his right arm and hip during Sunday’s practice. The Hall of Fame coach was injured when he was blindsided by a player running a drill on the practice field. Paterno walked away after the incident .
He conducted Monday morning’s coaches meeting via speaker phone from Mount Nittany Medical Center, where tests were conducted to determine the extent of the injuries.
The Nittany Lions open their 125th season Sept. 3 vs. Indiana State in Beaver Stadium and then play host to No. 2 Alabama on Sept. 10, as the Crimson Tide visit Happy Valley for the first time since 1989. All Penn State fans are encouraged to wear white to the 3:30 p.m. clash with Alabama.
