John C. Gustitus, age 86, of First Street in DuBois, PA died Aug. 3, 2011 at his residence.
Born on Nov. 29, 1924 in Girardville, PA, he was the son of the late John and Mary Yurkunis Gustitus.
On June 23, 1962, he married Margaret (Kumetis) Gustitus. She survives.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Radioman Second Class.
He retired in 1983 after over 30 years of service with the Federal Aviation Administration. He served as Chief of Flight Operations at the DuBois Regional Airport for 17 years and previous to that was an air traffic controller.
He was a member of the St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, the James J. Patterson Post 813 Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Sykesville American Legion Post 345. He was an avid dancer and a member of the Slovenian Polka Booster Club. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, camping, wood working, and stained glass window work.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by 4 daughters (Christine Rakolta and her husband Matthew of Pittsburgh, PA; Diana Myers and her husband Timothy of Erie, PA; Debra Gustitus of DuBois, PA ; and Jeanne Kenawell of Brockway, PA) 2 sisters (Alma Tankalavage of DuBois, PA and Constance Suslavage of New Jersey) and 3 grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and 7 sisters.
Visitation will be held on Aug. 5 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Goble Baronick Funeral Home.
A scriptural wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday evening at the funeral home.
The DuBois Area Honor Guard will conduct a ritual service on Aug. 6 at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. from St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church with Fr. David Foradori as celebrant.
Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery where full military honors will be accorded by the members of the DuBois Area Honor Guard.
Memorials may be placed with the charity of the donor’s choice.
