PHILIPSBURG – The Philipsburg-based state police is seeking the public’s help regarding an incident of burglary that occurred sometime between 4:30 – 5:10 p.m. Monday, July 18 at a Furnace Street residence, Huston Township.

In a press release, the state police reported an elderly woman was at her residence when a male knocked at her door. However, before the woman reached the door, the male entered her residence unauthorized.

The male claimed he was affiliated with an electric company and wanted to save her money, state police said. While the male distracted the victim, it’s suspected that a second perpetrator entered the residence and removed a safe, which contained numerous valuables from the residence.

A black Ford pick-up truck was observed in the area during the timeframe of the alleged incident. The truck was described with two, large chrome stripes and with a red and silver symbol on the tailgate. A male who was wearing a straw hat and a younger, blonde-haired female were observed in the truck, according to the release.

The male was described as approximately 50 to 70 years of ago, standing 5 feet, 11 inches tall with a medium build and short hair. He was last observed wearing a straw hat, button-up shirt and khaki pants. He reportedly “spoke with a strong southern ascent and was very tan” in complexion.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact either the Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers at 1-800-4PA-TIPS or the Philipsburg-based state police at 814-342-3370.
