Philipsburg Woman Accused of Assaulting State Troopers

PHILIPSBURG – A 51-year-old Philipsburg woman has been accused of assaulting state troopers, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct after an incident during the early morning hours Saturday at a North Centre Street residence in Philipsburg Borough, Centre County.

The Philipsburg-based state police identified the woman as Joyce Susan Colton, 51, of Philipsburg. She was awaiting arraignment at the Centre County Prison at the time the police report was faxed to the media.

According to the report, troopers arrived at the scene after neighbors complained of Colton, whom was outside her residence and shouting without any apparent reason. She allegedly ignored requests to desist and return to her residence at which time state troopers attempted to cite her for disorderly conduct.

After attempting to issue a citation, Colton allegedly emerged from the stairwell of her apartment and was swinging a hammer at state troopers. Once disarmed, she violently resisted arrest, clawed and kicked, causing minor abrasions and cuts to both state troopers, the report said.
