Even though it was a hot night, the streets of Houtzdale were full for the first night of Houtzdale Days 2011. This year marks the twentieth year for the event, so it was only fitting for the Citizen of the Year Award to be given to the original officers who organized the first Houtzdale Days in 1991. Susan Johnson was the secretary and David Kitko was the chairperson. The 1991 committee decided to start the event, when the fire company could no longer do the yearly carnival. The treasurer of the event was the late Margaret Grove. The committee was pleased with the turnout despite the heat.
